Madhav Marathe
Distinguished Professor of Biocomplexity and Computer Science at the University of Virginia
Madhav Marathe is a computer scientist and Distinguished Professor of Biocomplexity at the University of Virginia. He is Executive Director of UVA's Biocomplexity Institute and a tenured Professor of Computer Science, with an additional appointment in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Research
Marathe's research spans network science, artificial intelligence, digital twins, high-performance computing, computational epidemiology, multi-agent systems and data analytics. Much of his work uses large-scale computational methods to study interconnected biological, social and technological systems.[1]
He has led large interdisciplinary research programmes and has worked extensively on computational approaches to public-health and epidemiological problems.[1]
Academic career
Before his current roles at the University of Virginia, Madhav Marathe held senior research and academic positions at Virginia Tech and Los Alamos National Laboratory. Over a career spanning several decades, his work has combined computer science with network-based approaches to complex societal problems.[1]
Marathe is a Fellow of several major scientific and professional organisations, including AAAS, SIAM, ACM and IEEE.[1]
