Mandar Marathe

Pune-based fine artist, sculptor and art educator, and former engineer in manufacturing and IT

Mandar Marathe is a Pune, India-based fine artist and sculptor who left a 15-year corporate career in manufacturing and IT to become a full-time artist in 2011. Drawing inspiration from nature and reflecting on the impact of technology on human life, his paintings and sculptures have been shown in solo and group exhibitions and are held in private and corporate collections across several countries. He also teaches art through workshops and online courses to students worldwide.

Background

Marathe has been making art since childhood, drawing inspiration primarily from nature. He pursued art seriously as a hobby, winning awards during his education, while spending over 15 years working in the manufacturing and IT industries. In 2011 he left corporate life to become a full-time artist.[1]

Artistic practice

Marathe works across painting and sculpture, describing himself as a visual artist and technologist whose background in the technology field gives his art a distinct perspective, with subjects that address both the benefits and drawbacks of technology in human life.[2] His work has been shown in five solo and six group exhibitions in Goa and Pune, and his paintings are held in corporate collections including Siemens Ltd, L&T Infotech, and Infosys BPO, as well as private collections spanning India, the UK, the USA, Greece and Nigeria.[1]

Teaching

Since 2012 Marathe has taught art through in-person workshops and online courses, running over 100 workshops in his studio and at IT companies and schools around Pune and Mumbai, and creating more than 35 online courses taken by over 20,000 students from 119+ countries.[1]
